Chris broke his hip towards the end of last year, he had 3 unsuccessful hip operations and then caught a nasty infection.
As a result of this, he was bed bound for 2 months and was in need of specialist seating arrangements. Chris’s daughter has explained how up until the accident he was able to walk the mile loop around the park with her, so he was an active man.
He was transferred to a nursing home at the end of November and it was them who recommended him getting a chair, to get him out bed. She made it her mission to get him out of bed to have his Christmas dinner with the other residents in the dining room.
Chris’s Health Conditions
Chris’s broken hip was causing him a lot of discomfort and swelling, so he was unable to sit in a standard wheelchair. Because of this he was bed bound and feeling lonely, whilst not being able to benefit from any social interaction with the other residents.
Our Recommendation
Our Assessor Kris went out to complete the assessment for Chris and recommended the Apollo Air Comfort V2 Deluxe Day Bed. Which has the following features:
- Tilt in Space (TIS)
- Back Angle Recline (BAR) to accommodate complex postures
- Offers the ability to lie flat like a bed
- Seat arms can be rotated into three set positions
- Legrest can be rotated through 85° and set at any position throughout that range
- Pressure relief.
The Result
Premiere Healthcare was able to react quickly and supply the Apollo Air Comfort V2 Deluxe Day Bed within two weeks of the assessment.
Chris’s daughter was thrilled:
“I would like to say thank you so much for organising dads chair so quickly. I got a bit emotional when he was wheeled out of his room for the first time. He found the chair very comfortable, and actually had his lunch at the table with the rest of the residents today. I left him in the lounge chatting to the ladies!
The gentleman that delivered the chair was very helpful. He was able to teach the staff how to use the chair and the hoist. The only issue was that the slings did not fit their hoist – but you lent us yours until the new ones arrived.
All of you that I have spoken to on the phone and had email conversations with have been very friendly, helpful and understanding. Even when I call out of hours over the Christmas holidays I had a quick and helpful response when I left a message.
Many thanks again. You have made my Dads last Christmas one to remember.”
Several months later we caught up with Chris’s daughter again to see how he was getting on. We were pleased to hear that Chris is much more mobile than he was and often sits out in the chair for most of the day. He can go to all the activities the home offer and eats all his meals in the dining room, and chat with the other residents. Which is making a big difference to his everyday life.
